What is Fiqh?
The word “Fiqh” is an Arabic term meaning "deep understanding". What a Muslim must know and refrain from; what he cannot afford to be unaware of regarding acts of worship, interactions with others, customs and traditions, clothing, food, medicine, seeking medical treatment, and so on.
Prophet (ﷺ) instructed us to learn and understand the ahkaam (rulings) of Fiqh.
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “People are like mines of silver and gold. The best of them in the time of ignorance are the best of them in Islam, if they have religious understanding (Fiqh).” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2638)
Importance of Learning Fiqh
Fiqh means to understand the instructions of Allah! Hence it lays the foundation of knowledge of any Muslim to live in this world as per the purpose (worship) mentioned by Allah in Qur’an and succeed in the Hereafter.
Yahya ibn ‘Abbad reported: Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “Verily, there is no good in worship without knowledge, nor in knowledge without understanding (Fiqh), nor in recitation without reflection.” (Sunan al-Dārimī 305)
Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah will not let my nation agree upon misguidance. The hand of Allah is over the united community.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2167)
Al-Tirmidhi said, “The interpretation of the united community, according to the scholars, are the people of Fiqh, knowledge, and Hadith.”
Al-Bayhaqi reported: Al-Shafi’i, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “You must acquire understanding (Fiqh) in the religion before assuming leadership. If you assume leadership first, there will be no way to acquire understanding.” (al-Madkhal ilā al-Sunan al-Kubrá 271)
Therefore, an individual should know thoroughly the religious-practical (Fiqh) matters related to his life. Learning the Fiqh related to all the duties that are obligatory for an adult is compulsory for him or her. If someone is a businessman, he must learn the Fiqhi issues related to trading. If someone is an adult it’s their duty to perform fasting in Ramadan, therefore he or she must know all the Fiqh related to fasting and so on. It is compulsory for every adult to know all the Fiqh related to his duties.
The key purpose of this course, designed and planned by Noorul Quran Academy, is to make every Muslim aware of the fundamentals of the rules (ahkaam) related to his day-to-day activities, which one is supposed to apply in every realm of his/her life, and a little more beyond the fundamentals. We assure to convey the knowledge based on authentic texts, in a systematic style managed by Subject matter experts and co-ordinated by efficient tutors to assure individual attention.
A 10 month long structured course, divided into modules that is accessible for women of all ages. Weekly live classes, with fixed schedules, will be conducted by the main faculty of the department, of which audio and video recordings will be available for students’ reference. In addition, weekly revision classes conducted by mentors with flexible schedules, in order to assure the smooth flow of the course.

'Umdatul Ahkam is a famous text that contains hadith pertaining to juristic rulings (ahkaam) from Bukhari & Muslim written by Imam Abd Al-Ghani Al-Maqdisi (AH 541-600). The book contains 16 books and over 400 hadith. This will be considered as a text to begin with, followed by other authentic texts in the subject of Fiqh, taken in phased manner.
