Numerous distinguished scholars have pointed out the significance of learning Arabic and its advantages in all spheres of our lives. These are:
Until they are proficient in the language, every Muslim should be able to carry out their personal responsibilities in Arabic at the very least.
They have emphasized the Arabic language's benefits, which include its complexity, clarity, comprehensiveness, and logic.
The advantages of studying, teaching, and understanding Arabic have been mentioned.
In this regard, numerous books have also been published. Certain subjects—even a few well-known hadith narrators ( Muhaddithun) have included in their collections of hadith the significance of studying Arabic.
Let's now examine a few verses in which Allah himself states.
انّا أنزلناه قرءانًا عربيًّا لعلّكم تعقلون
It is both a collective (Fard Kefayah) and a personal (Fard 'Ayn) obligation. Our faith requires us to know some basic Arabic and to memorize a few passages from the Quran.
For example, according to Imam Shafi, "every Muslim must learn Arabic to the degree that it permits him to perform the fundamental elements of religious worship" (Irshad al-Fuhool, page 421).
What is clear from Shaikh Al Islam's statement is that each Muslim ought to be knowledgeable enough to fulfill his fundamental duties.
The question of "how much is enough" still stands. It is technically sufficient for a Muslim to carry out his duties if he is aware of the first surah of the Quran (Surah Fatiha) and the declaration of faith.
As everyone is aware, scholars are required to possess khusoo, or prominence and piety in prayer (though this is not a requirement for its validity). It is simple to attain if you not only memorize a small portion of the Quran but also develop your ability to comprehend Allah's words.
While Ibn Taymiyyah concurs with this assertion, he goes one step further and states that "knowing Arabic is a religious obligation because it is a necessary language to understand the Qur'an and the Sunnah." A person who does not understand Arabic will never be able to comprehend (religion) Islam. (and the inability to fulfill an obligation is also mandatory) Next, it results in that which is both a collective and an individual obligation for each and every person.
Ibn Tayyimah is making the point that while knowing a little Arabic is sufficient to carry out one's mandatory responsibilities, it is the collective responsibility of at least a few people to be able to comprehend, teach, and acquire it in depth. because learning Deen is required
Understanding the true teachings of the Quran and Sunnah is essential.
This second reason stems from the previous one, but it goes deeper than it first appears to.
Our beloved prophet spoke Arabic, and the Quran was revealed in that language as well. The only way we can take advantage of this knowledge is if we speak Arabic.
Arabic is useful for regular people like us as well as for those who are seeking knowledge of this sacred science. Arabic also makes it easier for us to read the words of Allah and comprehend the words of our prophet directly.
This does not guarantee that you will learn fiqh knowledge from it, as it requires a deeper understanding of other branches of Islamic study. However, learning Arabic will enable you to receive greater tranquility and guidance.
The All-Powerful Allah has declared:
أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ
The translation of which is ;
“Certainly hearts will find tranquility in the remembrance of Allah”
Apart from that, Allah says
Which is translated as follows:.
The month of Ramadan marks the revelation of the Qur'an to humanity, providing unambiguous guidance and standards for discerning right from wrong.
Being well-versed in Arabic language will improve our comprehension of the Quran and Hadith, which will improve our guidance and tranquility.
Accurate understanding of global views and Aqeeda
The way language is based on the way our brain functions and is organized overall. Language is a tool for understanding the world; it is like a machine that can express and comprehend meanings.
The language we choose to express ourselves has a great deal of power because it reveals our worldview. Certain Arabic words, which are more beautiful in their original language than in translation, are visible.
For example, the core idea of the Quran and our Deen is Taqwa. Depending on the situation, it can be translated as fear, piety, or a different meaning altogether.
Taqwa is Arabic for "moral fear," "to be cautious," "to take care of," as well as "justice, honesty, and respect." Taqwa can be defined as knowing the truth about the Rabb, which makes one more virtuous and cautious toward Allah. It also keeps oneself from disobeying his commands and instills fear of Allah's fury.
As we have mentioned earlier we need language to think and express. By knowing deeply about a language can help us to express our feelings more and enhance our thoughts. We are actually learning the language of Quran by learning the language of Arabic , that means we will be able to understand and use the concepts more deeply.
The more we know to use language the more we can elaborate our thoughts which in turn can strengthen our intelligence.
Moreover the word repeatedly used in arabic for ‘intellect’ is فقه
مَنْ يُرد الله بهِ خَيرًا يفقهه في الدين
The translation of which is :
“For whomever Allah intends goodness , He grants him understanding of religion” (bukhari muslim)
In fact, arabic knowledge helps to enhance and strengthen our understanding of Quran and Sunnah. (It also improves our intellect and understanding of Deen). It is a strong intellect which recognizes that knowledge needs acting upon knowledge, which means by utilizing the thoughts of Quran and Sunnah lets perform Quran and sunnah.
To beautify Ourself
Its our toungue which helps us to express our inner views to others. We express our knowledge fears, beliefs, desires, thats the language for communication for us.
To communicate in a proper way is as beautiful as how we dress up with dignity and humility. Is there any other language as beautiful as language of our beloved Prophet and Holy Quran?
It was reported from a renowned hadith collector Ibn Shubrumah “ Men have not worn garments more beautiful than Arabic”
(Al Bayhaqi ,shuab Al Iman vol 4p197)
There is love in its heart
These are the 5 major reasons for muslims to learn arabic . Its not just a necessity but some basic knowledge about arabic mandatory. But there is a mjaor reason which validates all the above said reasons:Love.
Moreover this is the language in which Allah has revealed Quran and also the language spoken by iur belived Prophet Muhammad. Who are there who doesn’t want to converse in this language.
